The Devil Wears Prada

Speculative Design for Drury Lane Theatre

Designing the set for a theatre adaption of ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ was an intricate and challenging experience, I attempted to encapsulate the essence of Miranda Priestley’s character. My primary inspiration stemmed from religious places and royalty, using grand arches and an elevated platform as her office to signify Miranda’s position of power. My main goal was to create an environment where Miranda is almost worshipped by the other characters below,  visually establishing her dominance and power. The set was designed with the entire show in mind, from start to finish, carefully considering how the main set would deconstruct into multiple spaces.

I decided to adapt the show to the Drury Lane Theatre as the luxurious interior of the theatre,  perfectly aligns with the themes of wealth and power that are central to the story.

Another crucial aspect of my designs was the costumes. Inspired by gemstones and goddesses, the costumes have been designed to stand out against the sleek and timeless set. The neutral set provided the perfect canvas for the striking costumes to pop. This reflects the way the public might adapt fashion trends into wearable clothes.
