Ray Laurel - Ride

Directed by Guy Gooch

In this project, I faced a challenge: creating in-camera practical effects to simulate animals' eyes glowing in the dark woods. To achieve this effect, I found a solution using reflective bicycle tape. This material was chosen for its ability to evenly bounce back light when illuminated. By strategically placing small pieces of this tape in the scene, I was able to mimic the natural reflective properties of animal eyes in low-light conditions. When light was shone on these tape pieces during filming, they created a convincing illusion of glowing eyes peering out from the darkness, adding an authentic and chilling atmosphere to the woodland scenes without the need for post-production effects.
